GIFT OF LIFE: WELL NO. 810 REHABILITATED IN LOVING MEMORY OF AMBAREEN ZAINAB KANANI AND IMAAN FATEMA KANANI
Location:
Tushikamane Street, Lukobe Ward, Morogoro DC, Morogoro Region
Beneficiaries:
28 families | 161 individuals daily
On 9th February 2025, The Desk and Chair Foundation officially handed over ten rehabilitated wells—WELL NOs. 801 to 810—across various parts of Morogoro. Among them, WELL NO. 810 in Tushikamane Street, Lukobe Ward, has become a renewed source of life and dignity for the local community.
Once broken and unusable, this shallow well has now been restored to full functionality. The rehabilitation was made possible through a heartfelt donation in loving memory of Ambareen Zainab Kanani and Imaan Fatema Kanani, in generous coordination with the Nudba Group of Toronto. Today, the well serves as both a vital water source and a living tribute to compassion, remembrance, and human solidarity.
Bringing Water, Restoring Hope
Every day, 28 families—totaling 161 individuals—benefit from reliable access to clean water for drinking, cooking, washing, and small-scale agriculture. In regions where water scarcity directly impacts health and well-being, this rehabilitated well restores more than water—it restores hope, resilience, and the dignity of daily life.
Water as a Sacred Symbol
Across cultures and faiths, water is not merely a necessity—it is sacred. It symbolizes mercy, purity, and divine sustenance. The story of Karbala echoes this truth. Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his companions endured extreme thirst on the plains of Karbala, standing for justice and faith amidst unimaginable suffering. The lack of water during that historic moment serves as a powerful reminder of water’s value—physically and spiritually.
In this spirit, WELL NO. 810 stands as a sacred offering—quenching thirst in the name of love, justice, and faith. It is a profound act of sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity), ensuring that each drop continues to reflect compassion and legacy.
Advancing Global Commitments
This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, which calls for universal access to safe and affordable water. Through localized, community-centered projects like this, The Desk and Chair Foundation actively contributes to global efforts for health, sustainability, and equity in underserved communities.
A Lasting Legacy
The memory of Ambareen Zainab Kanani and Imaan Fatema Kanani is now deeply rooted in the soil and spirit of Morogoro. Their names are etched not on a stone, but in the grateful hearts of every person who drinks from WELL NO. 810.
As children laugh while fetching water and elders offer prayers of gratitude, this well speaks softly yet powerfully:
“You are remembered. Your love continues to give life.”
